Buford Pusser – Hero? and Case XX Knives
Case Collectors will love this. Buford Pusser at 6’6″ “walked tall” and became a heroic celebrated lawman before his death in 1974. His wife Pauline was killed and Buford was wounded in an ambush in 1967. Buford said the ambush was an assassination attempt on him. Movies like Walking Tall and others were made of Buford and his big stick. W.R. Case has made 10 knives commemorating Pusser that I have found and documented so far. The knives have date tangs from 1983 to 1995. Interestingly, the first knife had blued blades, and a 1984 variation misspelled Buford as Bufford. Several knives have new grind blades. And some of these 10 trappers have sold for more than $200. These knives have been collectable for years
But now, after 57 years, there is increasing forensic evidence that the ambush was staged as an excuse for Buford to kill his wife. As Buford Pusser migrates from heroic lawman to possible wife killer, the Case xx commemoratives may become even more collectable and valuable.
