Thank You for Your Service–From Case XX and KnifeDB.com
My Father was a veteran of WWII, Korea. and Vietnam. My wife’s father was a veteran of WWII and Korea. It is difficult to express how grateful we are for the wonderful life these two men fought to give us. And these feelings must also be found in the W. R. Case factory for they have created 446 commemoratives honoring American veterans and the wars they have fought in. I have attached a few pictures, but you can see them all in KnifeDB.com. On the search page, expand Special Collector Searches”, then expand WARS, and you will see this list below. Click on the conflict you want to search…The prices shown are the actual prices the knife sold for and the year it fetched that amount.
Here are a few highlights hidden in this group of knives.
Many of the earliest commemoratives made by the Case factory were made for the American Revolution Bi-Centennial in 1976.
The factory made a unique Revolutionary war Sod Buster for every county in South Carolina. There are 46 of these counties. They also created unique knives for each battle in South Carolina. These knives were sold In J.C. Penny stores near the county described on the knife, but only 200 copies of each knife was made. This was a very small quantity for a knife at this time. Since they were sold in different stores it would have been very difficult to buy a whole set. And today it would be even more difficult to collect the whole set of fifty plus Sod Busters. I have shown one county knife and one battle in the samples below. Several Shaw-Liebowitz custom knives were also made to honor the revolution. One of these is shown.
Here are the counts of knives I have found and documented that relate to a war.
