In 1970, Case initiated the modern era in knife collecting.
The 1970 knife tangs had ten dots on them. Then Case removed
one dot for each of the next 9 years. In 1980, the ten dots
appeared again, but the S in Case was changed to reflect the new
decade.
Note that in the year tangs there continue to be many
variations. For example: there may or may not be periods in the
USA. The USA may have spaces between the U S A or not. The
dots may be placed differently. For the purposes of this help
lesson, these cannot all be displayed. If you wanted to see all
the 1970 tang stamps, you would go to "TANGS" and select the
year 1970.
Also, note that the dot line is consistently the last line in
the tang stamp in the 1970's. The result is that some bolsters,
like on the Canoe (62131) hid the dots making the determination
of the year virtually impossible on some knives.
